I really hate NaruHina (The idea, not the shippers.) But at leat we don't have to worry about it being canon. I even have a couple theories.

Kishimoto is very gender/goal orientated. What I mean is that the men in Naruto want to do something more concrete, but the women want something emotional. Sasuke wants to kill his brother (Or, in later chapters, has killed), Naruto wants to become Hokage, ect. So can find various examples. But the women in Naruto have more emotional aspects. Sakura, for example, wanted to find love (Mainly in Sasuke, but I'll explain that.). Hinata wanted to grow stronger, Ino wanted to be a better friend. The women in Naruto's character developement strives from their relationships. What is Hinata's purpose in Naruto? What does Hinata prove? Hinata proves that it doesn't matter who you are or what your struggles are, if you keep trying you can do it. Hinata wanted to be storng when she stood up to Neji in Part I remember? She trained hard and wants to prove to herself that she can do it. Hinata's crush on Naruto is her developement. Hinata wanted to be like Naruto, so she loved him (I really believe that Hinata's feelings are crushes, but let's just say she does love him). Hinata has overcome physical struggles in her attempt to be like Naruto. But inside, she's nothing like him. Kishimoto has potrayed Hinata as believing that she needs Naruto. But that is clinginess, that isn't strength or power or anything Naruto is. It's just a childish clinginess. You can't argue that Hinata feels that way about Naruto. She does cling to the idea of loving him. But what if Hinata confesses her love to Naruto and gets turned down? What if Naruto and Sakura hook up before Hinata can do anything? That would break Hinata. She would be crushed, broken, hurt. But she couldn't sit around crying and moping. She would have to stand for herself, without Naruto. She would realize she doesn't need Naruto to be strong. She would realize that Hinata can confront any problem, not Naruto, Hinata. That is a story. Kishimoto likes a combination of emotional and physical struggle. He does this with EVERY character. The Sasuke/Itachi fight, the Naruto/Sasuke fight, the Shikamaru/Hidan fight. All emotional and physical struggle combinations. But, Kishimoto has added at least one of these struggles to each character in both parts. And if he hasn't already, he will. Hinata had her emotional/physical stuggle in Part I with Neji, and she's going to have to face a greater challenge in Part II. This struggle will involve Hinata losing Naruto and being emotionally weak. Hinata will have to face an enemy. At first, Hinata will believe she can't do it without Naruto, and then she's going to realize that Naruto was strong because he could do somethings on his own. Hinata will realize she can confront the problem and beat the villian all by herself. Hinata doesn't need Naruto to be strong, but she doesn't realize this yet. She needs to learn it, and she never can if she and Naruto are together romantically.

Love means to understanding, trusting, and relying. NaruHina does not have this. Sure, Hinata can rely on Naruto, but he can't rely on her. Love is not 'the big strong man and his obedient wife'. That's just as bad as those arranged marriages. Naruto can rely on Sakura to help him through physical stuggles and emotional ones. Sakura can rely on Naruto. Naruto can't rely on Hinata. When Sasuke left, Sakura confided in Naruto and he confided in her. They shared the pain. Hinata can't even talk about something trivial with Naruto (H-h-h-h-ows t-t-t-he w-w-weather?), let alone something so important as Sasuke. Overall, Hinata can't speak with Naruto. It's just like when Sakura or Ino were younger and they tried talking to Sasuke. They didn't get him, and he didn't get her.

NaruHina shouldn't happen because of Hinata's feelings. Hinata is not entitled to Naruto because she loves him. That's just wrong. That mean the fangirls were entitled to Sasuke, Naruto is entitled to Sakura, ect. Just because 'Oh poor Hinata!' doesn't make it work. And I think fangirls relate to Hinata, they want someone or something and assume if Hinata acheives this goal, then they can too. Ever wonder why the majority of NaruHina fans are girls?

I honestly believe that teenagers aren't stupid enough to stop breathing because Abercombie said it wasn't cool. I also believe that people who do believe need to stop trying to be unique and stop being cynical.
